American Artist, Born 1991. Living and working in Los Angeles, CA.
I believe that there are only two things that truly matter in life; our perspectives and our relationships. My practice closely examines how one’s perspective effects our interpersonal relationships, and conversely, how one’s relationships informs and evolves our perspectives. Utilizing reflected images and text my work explores the differences and similarities between how individuals and groups interact with each other and how they move through the world.
The use of fish in my work is two-fold; as the subject matter and as a way of creating space. As the subject, the fish in my work represent the people around me and humanity as a whole. Each piece depicts a different grouping of fish interconnected in different ways. The fish also work to create a unique space to transport the viewer. By choosing to paint a menagerie of koi, my goal is to align my work with the connotation of lazy, sunny summer days and cool, refreshing water extending into infinity. Creating a space for people to get lost in, quiet their mind and perform self introspection.
I have been increasingly interested in the views and philosophies of different groups of people and how those beliefs have informed my own, effected how I live and influenced how I view those around me. By closely examining commonly held perspectives and questioning my own, I hope to not only enrich my own life experience, but also inspire others to examine theirs as well.
